Pleats Me!?

Hi folks,
Recently I have spotted quite a few girls wearing pleated skirts here in London & when I asked my “High Street & glossy magazine” mad friend at work she said that they are a hot trend for spring/summer 2011.
I really like clothing with tactile textures and I think pleats are a fun way of injecting a bit of excitement in to an outfit.
I’ve got a number of pleated skirts myself  but I haven’t worn them in ages, however after spotting a few fabulous street style ensembles this week, I decided to dig one out & have a go at styling some outfits around it...
I suppose quite a few folk would lump the pleated skirt in the same category as the polyester day dress i.e. classic granny attire but I personally think it holds a lot of styling potential...
1. Wicca tie-dye blouse
2. Scrunch textured top
3. Guess tiger print top
4. Vintage 70s Victorian style blouse
I bought this embellished Indian top from the car boot sale...
The great thing about a skirt with an elasticised waistband, is that you can instantly tranform it in to a top, dress or even an unusual cape-dress...
Here are a three more ensembles from ages ago in which I encorporated pleated skirts...
Will you be wearing a pleated skirt this summer?
Hope you've all had a fabulous weekend!
Peace & love,
Jem

My favourite look is 3, with the tiger shirt. I love the juxtaposition between the chic pleats and the in-your-face top.

I've also been inspired by the strapless dress idea, great for hols.

Luckily pleat skirts with elastic waists are pretty commonplace on the high street and charity shops (just because youngsters have them don't mean the grannies have stopped) so I'll keep an eye out for a bargain.

Thanks for the pleatspiration!

I think they are great but they just DO tend to look like school skirts of me no matter how hard I try- just a bad length and shape for me! Love your ideas though!
